DataStory Studio is free. Exporting videos uses points: you start with a balance, each export spends some, and you can top up at any time by watching a short rewarded video ad — your choice, never forced. Ads are the only way the app makes money, and they only ever appear when you tap to watch one.
What the ads mean for your privacy. Rewarded ads are served by Google AdMob. Before any ad loads, the app asks for your choice under Apple's App Tracking Transparency and Google's consent prompt, and it honours it. Nothing you create — your data, your videos — is ever sent to an advertiser.
