Privacy Policy

DataStory Studio has no accounts, no analytics, no advertising and no tracking of any kind. We do not collect, store or transmit your personal information. Everything you make stays on your device.
What we collect
Nothing. There is no sign-up, no login, and no identifier attached to you or your device. We do not use analytics, crash reporting, advertising SDKs, or any third-party tracking library. The app has no server that holds your data, because it has no server at all.
What stays on your device
- Datasets you create or import. Stored on your device only.
- Videos you export. Stored on your device until you delete them, which you can do individually or all at once from Settings.
- Music you import. Copied into the app's own storage on your device.
- Your preferences — chosen language, whether you have seen the introduction, and which stories you have downloaded.
Deleting the app removes all of it. We keep no copy, because we never receive one.
When the app uses the internet
The app makes network requests in two situations, and no others.
Story data — only when you ask. When you tap Check for updates on the Stories screen, pull to refresh, or use the same option in Settings, the app downloads publicly available statistics from a public GitHub repository. This never happens on its own: there is no story download on launch and no background refresh.
Supported version check — once, when the main screen opens. After the app has finished opening, once per session and only if you are already online, it reads one small file from the same public repository. That file says which versions of the app are still supported, so that a version with a serious problem can be told to update rather than left running quietly.
The request sends nothing about you. It asks for a fixed web address and reads the answer — no version number, no device details, no identifier, nothing about what you have made. The comparison happens on your device, after the file arrives. The answer is saved on your device so the app still knows where it stands when it is offline, and it is used the next time you open the app rather than interrupting the session you are in.
Neither request sends personal information, and neither sends anything about your data, your videos or your usage. As with visiting any web page, GitHub receives the standard information any web server does, including your IP address, and handles it under GitHub's privacy statement. We receive nothing.
Permissions
- Photo library — add only. Requested only when you choose "Save Video" from the share sheet. The app can add a video you just made; it cannot read your library.
- Notifications. Optional. Used only to tell you that a video you asked for has finished rendering.
- Files. Only the specific file you pick when importing a CSV or an audio track.
The app does not use your microphone, camera, contacts, calendar, location, health data, or your device's advertising identifier.
If you email us
Contacting support is entirely your choice. If you do, we receive your email address and whatever you write. The app can pre-fill your app version, device model, iOS version and region to help us reproduce a problem — you can see this before sending and delete any of it. We use what you send only to answer you, and we do not add you to any mailing list.
Children
DataStory Studio is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from anyone. Since the app collects nothing at all, there is nothing about a child to collect or delete.
Your rights
Privacy laws including the GDPR, the CCPA and India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act give you rights to access, correct, export and delete personal data a company holds about you. We hold none, so there is nothing for us to return or erase. The data on your device is yours: exportable as CSV and video files at any time, and deletable from within the app or by removing it.
Changes
If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted here with a new date. If a future release ever collects anything, that will be stated plainly here and in the App Store listing before it ships.
